The widespread abuse of fentanyl and opioids has resulted in a shocking number of children being left orphaned. The range of this crisis is severe, with over 3,021,000 children losing a parent to a drug overdose between 2011 and 2021.

However, many people are facing side effects of the medications themselves. Litigations such as Suboxone Lawsuit, stand as a prime example showing several people facing dental issues after using Suboxone.

Nonetheless, the latter is a problem that can be prevented if taken proper care. This article carries information about fentanyl addiction and how to save yourself from the side effects of its medication.

Loss of Life

The rate of losing a parent to drug overdose has doubled over the past decade. The average number of children affected has increased from approximately 27 to 63 per million. These figures, published in a study by the esteemed medical journal JAMA Psychiatry, highlight the seriousness of the situation.

The study reveals that the largest number of deaths involved parents of white children. In addition to that, it also indicates that children of American Indian or Alaska Native parents have experienced the highest rates of loss.

Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), expressed the need for a deep study of the situation. This is required to understand the situation of orphaned children and those who have lost at least one parent to overdose.

What Can Be Done?

Strategies for harm reduction and the availability of overdose-reversal medication like Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) have been expanded nationwide. Alongside this, the study also highlights the lack of focus on parents within these initiatives.

There is a need to emphasize peer-to-peer parenting training, which is often ignored in drug treatment programs. The study also underscored the urgent need to treat addiction and suggest strategies that will help prevent individuals from drug overdose.

As per the study, overdose in the parents was the highest among the families of Natives of Alaska or American Indians. With 187.1 deaths per million in 2021, it was more than double the rate of white parents. Black parents had an overdose rate of 73.2 deaths per million.

Recovering from opioid addiction includes not only focusing on the addiction itself but also prioritizing overall health. However, it is upsetting to say that the medication supporting the recovery may have dangerous effects on your dental health.

Bye to Overdose, Hello to Dental Problems

Suboxone, a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, is normally dissolved under the tongue or against the cheek. This method allows buprenorphine to be efficiently absorbed through the mouth’s membranes.

Naloxone, on the other hand, is included to prevent misuse and has no effect when taken as prescribed. However, in January 2022, the FDA issued a statement warning about possible dental issues related to the oral dissolution of these medications.

According to the TorHoerman Law, these issues may include cavities, oral infections, tooth decay, and tooth loss. There is a constant risk that Suboxone and other medications could lead to dental problems. This ultimately causes concern among individuals undergoing medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder.

Currently, there are ongoing lawsuits against the manufacturer of Suboxone, Indivior. These lawsuits are filed on the basis that the company failed to warn doctors and patients about the dental damage caused by Suboxone.

Most medications carry some degree of risk for side effects. However, it is rightfully important for individuals to be informed about overall dangers to make wise decisions about their health. As of now, these lawsuits are still pending.

The Possible Solutions

To reduce the harm caused to teeth by Suboxone, there are some measures suggested by WorkitHealth:

After the tablet or film is fully dissolved, rinse your mouth out gently with water and swallow.
Once the drug has fully dissolved, wait at least an hour before cleaning your teeth. Be gentle and use a brush with soft bristles when brushing.
Brush and floss as usual, but make sure to do so after the hour has passed since taking your medication.
As soon as you begin treatment, tell your dentist that you are using Suboxone.
Preferably every six months, schedule and attend routine dental cleanings and examinations. It is very important for people who may have neglected their oral hygiene while battling an opioid use disorder.

One of the best-known chains in California, with 24 locations, Norms Diner officially opened this week. On the west side, this hugely popular breakfast and lunch old-fashioned diner is the town’s hit! We tried it last week and again this last Saturday for their grand opening day.

The celebration began with a ribbon cutting, and then a fantastic media party (with numerous TV and radio stations), and a hotcake eating contest. Eleven participants for 10 minutes—smiling and absolutely stuffing their faces with hotcakes; the hot and fluffy discs of deliciousness just kept coming. The winner downed 46 to a grand prize of $5000 and another $5000 split between the other contestants.

Norms has been around for years, and everyone has heard of it. They plan to open at least one, if not two, more locations here next year. With their bright orange and white logos, huge menu, and fantastic service, you must come by and then come by again.

As media, we were invited to a buffet after the event and received a great gift box of coffee, a mug, a candle, and a cute little bacon and egg dishcloth. They have tons of parking—we will be regulars.

The Sugar Factory is to die for! It is loaded with whimsical Xmas drinks, cute decorations, a magnificent view of the strip, great little elf hostesses, and a fantastic menu.

The Sugar Factory was originally in the Fashion Show Mall on the Strip but is now across the street on the corner of LV Blvd and Harmon. Three stories high, it is loaded with tons of bags and nibbles (of every assortment of candy) to take home and enjoy at your leisure. The fun and festive dining area is upstairs with plenty of tables and a view. The menu is loaded with sliders, flatbreads, and many more delectable choices, of which I tried a holiday green fettuccine.

They have beef and chicken sliders, with holiday-inspired green and red buns and the beef slider was probably the best I’ve ever tasted! Music was playing and everyone dressed holiday style; it’s the perfect place to book a holiday party! This towering factory full of whimsy is even equipped with elevators. Don’t miss this place — I give it 5 dazzling stars.

This editorial is long overdue. I have known Fran and Rhett now for years. I think it is absolutely fair to say the entire Florida biker community would not thrive and be as vibrant as it is if it weren’t for Fran and Rhett her husband. I will dare to say some businesses and even competitors of hers would not exist if it wasn’t for www.LawFran.com!During the pandemic, I have witnessed Fran anonymously coming to the rescue of individuals and businesses with zero benefits to her or her business in doing so. A multitude have tried to “dethrone” Fran only to leave with their tails between their legs. There are still a few out there trying to emulate her. When your competition tries to copy you, it’s the greatest compliment isn’t it? I myself in 2017 faced a situation where I had a choice to stay with an organization which turned its back on Fran to partner with a competing attorney or, remain loyal to Fran at the risk of no longer being published by them. How Baseball Is Leading the Way in Sustainability

Every year, the not-for-profit organization GSBS (Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport) publishes a list indicating the sustainability performance of professional sports organizations. Currently, Formula E holds the pole position, though baseball lovers, take note! Baseball is also on the green side of the list, alongside American football, ice hockey, and handball. Indeed, Major League Baseball (MLB) and its 30 clubs have supported sustainability efforts since 2019 via its GREEN TEAMS initiative. The latter encourages environmental awareness during MLB All-Star events, providing education, collecting recyclables, and raising awareness among fans. Over the past five years, the MLB has shown that baseball is much more than an entertaining game; it is also a sport that can make a real difference.

Energy Challenges

Baseball fields are sizeable, and a typical stadium can use an astounding 10 megawatts of power (enough to power 8,000 American homes) during each game. On average, major league baseball generates some 5.6 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Stadium lighting, bars, food concessions, and live broadcasts make the game energy-intensive. Games in big stadiums can generate as much as 35 tons of waste, ranging from energy and water to food.

Greener Practices

Baseball clubs are going all-out to reduce their carbon footprints and make a difference to the planet. Initiatives include the use of renewable energy sources such as solar panels on roofs and parking structures and wind turbines that have been integrated into stadium design. Clubs are also embracing efficient LED lighting systems and automated lighting controls to minimize energy wastage. Water conservation is another important goal, and clubs are achieving it via efforts such as rainwater harvesting and aerated faucets. In March 2024, the New York Yankees, for instance, installed a cutting-edge water-cooled modular chiller plant that cools the stadium while providing enhanced efficiency. Green transport, construction, and the use of green roofs to regulate temperature and reduce stormwater runoff are also holding sway. Also noteworthy are waste disposal methods. In 2023, 70 tons of waste were diverted from landfills across host stadiums, achieving a 72% recycling rate. The Series also saw 15 tons of organic waste composted.

The Hypocrisy of the Religious

Halloween, is here. Believe it or not, those who celebrate it will likely be judged quite severely and arbitrarily by the religious out there. I personally don’t particpate to the extent some will but I do like to indulge in the entertaining shock-value of my alter-ego persona of sort. Even my children I know silently question the sincerity of my faith because of the way I do halloween.

Each year I simply wear white zombie lenses, a classic black suit and fangs. Not complicated. Not cumbersome and, always always a success frightening people. Halloween with its eerie ambiance and playful disguises, offers a unique lens through which we can explore the complexities of human nature and spirituality. On this night, people don masks and costumes, transforming into, saints, devils, ghouls, witches, angels, and other fantastical beings. It’s a time when the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, and the hidden aspects of our personalities come to the fore. But what if the real monsters aren’t the ones wearing the costumes or roaming the streets in search of candy but those who hide behind a facade of piety and righteousness?

In many communities, religious individuals are often seen as the moral compass, guiding others with their teachings and judgments. They and their parishioners are quick to point out the flaws and sins of others, often based on superficial appearances. A tattooed arm, someone who smokes or curses or someone who enjoys a drink, a short skirt, or a different way of worship can become grounds for condemnation. Yet, beneath their holy exterior, these same individuals, more often than not, are all guilty of the same sins, harboring darker secrets.

Consider the story of Reverend James, a well-respected figure in his small town. Every Sunday, he stood at the pulpit, delivering sermons on the virtues of humility, charity, and forgiveness. He was known for soft personality, his stern stance against what he deemed immoral behavior. He often singled out members of his congregation for their perceived transgressions. To the outside world, Reverend James was a paragon of virtue but at dinner table with his family, he and his family had no issue speaking openly about Joe’s indiscretion.

However, behind closed doors, his life told a different story. Reverend James and many of his own family members struggled with their own demons—gossip, greed, envy, and hidden addictions that gnawed at their souls. His and their judgment of others was a way to deflect attention from their own shortcomings, to maintain the illusion of righteousness. The very sins they condemned in others were the ones they battled within themselves. His own daughter committed adultery. One of his step son now deacon dealt with pornography.

Here are some well-known pastors in North America who have been involved in scandals:

Ted Haggard – Former leader of the National Association of Evangelicals, caught in a scandal involving drugs and a male prostitute.

Jim Bakker – Televangelist involved in financial and sexual misconduct.

Jimmy Swaggart – Televangelist caught in a scandal involving prostitutes.

Bill Hybels – Founding pastor of Willow Creek, resigned after allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of power.

James MacDonald – Founding pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel, fired for creating a culture of fear and financial mismanagement.

Tony Alamo – Sentenced to 175 years in prison for pedophilia and marrying an underage girl.

Eddie Long – Accused of sexual misconduct with young men in his congregation.

Ravi Zacharias – Apologist and author, posthumously found to have engaged in sexual misconduct.

Carl Lentz – Former pastor of Hillsong NYC, fired for moral failures and leadership issues.

Mark Driscoll – Former pastor of Mars Hill Church, resigned amid allegations of bullying and abusive behavior.

This hypocrisy is not unique to those pastors. Throughout history, additional countless religious leaders and devout followers have been exposed for their double lives. The bible is filled with them. Other faith’s leaders I shall not name are also plagued with human hypocrisy. The televangelist who preaches against adultery while engaging in extramarital affairs, the priest who condemns theft while embezzling church funds, the devout follower who speaks of love and compassion but harbors deep-seated prejudices—these are the real monsters hiding behind the masks of piety.

I am not attacking faith here. I am merely raising the question of moral accountability from those who hold high grounds. If they truly genuinely practiced what they preached, this world would be very different. Halloween, with its tradition of donning masks, serves as a metaphor for this duality. Just as people wear costumes to hide their true identities, so too do some religious individuals use their faith as a mask to conceal their true selves. They judge others based on appearances, yet their own hearts are filled with the very sins they decry. They look good externally but deep down they are rotten haters of self who hate and condemn others to forget so they can feel better about their own vile issues.

This is not to say that all religious individuals are hypocrites. Many genuinely strive to live by the principles they preach; their faith is a source of strength and goodness. My ex-brother-in-law turned pastor at First Baptist Church in Leominster, MA, I would say, is a good living example of that. He and his wife were the only ones (other than my father in law) I knew their faith was not a mask. I’ve been blessed to meet a handful like them. However, the danger lies in the tendency to judge others harshly while ignoring one’s own flaws. A rampant fact in churches. It is a reminder that true righteousness comes from within, not from outward appearances or the condemnation of others.

As we navigate the spooky season of Halloween, let us remember that the real monsters are not necessarily the ones in costumes, but those who hide behind a facade of virtues while harboring darkness within. Let us strive to look beyond appearances and recognize the humanity in each other, understanding that we all have our own struggles and imperfections. That God (if you believe in God) is the judge. No one else.

In the end, Halloween teaches us a valuable lesson about the nature of judgment and the importance of self-awareness. It reminds us that the scariest masks are not the ones we wear on October 31st, but the ones we wear every day to hide our true selves. By acknowledging our own flaws and striving for genuine goodness, we can move beyond the superficial judgments and create a more compassionate and understanding world.

So, as you carve your pumpkins and don your costumes this Halloween, take a moment to reflect on the masks you wear in your own life. Are they hiding your true self, or are they a reflection of who you aspire to be? And when you encounter others, remember that their outward appearance is just an infinitely small part of their story. Beneath the surface, we are all human, with our own fears, hopes, and struggles. Let us judge less and understand more, for in doing so, we reveal the true spirit of genuine religion—love, compassion, understanding, humility and forgiveness.
