LTC Launches 1st Ever National Walk for Long-Term Care Reform on September 27. The NEW nonprofit was born from the Gold Anthem Award-winning documentary No Country for Old People; a Nursing Home Exposé said the movement is calling for Respect, Oversight, Advocacy, and Reform in long-term care.
ROAR 4 LTC INC, a new national 501(c)(3) nonprofit movement dedicated to long-term care reform, will launch the first National Long-Term Care Reform Walk on September 27, 2026, with coordinated community events taking place across the country. The events are nonpartisan, community-led public-awareness walks and gatherings bringing together families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, students, advocates, and concerned citizens.
Participants will walk to honor those harmed or lost, amplify the experiences of residents and families, and call for stronger oversight, accountability, and quality long-term care. ‘
ROAR 4 LTC (Respect, Oversight, Advocacy, and Reform for Long-Term Care) was born from the impact of No Country for Old People; a Nursing Home Exposé (Amazon Prime), an Anthem Award-winning documentary exposé on the systemic long-term care crisis. The organization uses the power of storytelling to make visible what too often remains hidden: nursing home neglect, abuse, understaffing, lack of oversight, and the devastating consequences for residents and families.
The movement established September 27 as National Long-Term Care Reform Day, and ROAR will mark the day with public walks and gatherings nationwide. The movement has already gained momentum with leaders and supporters organizing in more than 25 states, with additional communities continuing to join.
That momentum is being strengthened by leading long-term care advocacy organizations, community partners, as well as the Girls Scouts of Colorado. The National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care has endorsed the National Walk and is promoting it to long-term care ombudsman programs nationwide and across its broader network. California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR) is also supporting and promoting the effort. Also in California, Omega Law Group has joined as a sponsor of the Beverly Hills event and will also help amplify the Walk through social media and press outreach.
“This crisis has been treated for too long as a private family burden,” said Susie Singer Carter, filmmaker, advocate, and co-founder of ROAR 4 LTC. “But long-term care affects all of us. It crosses every community, every generation, every faith tradition, and every political viewpoint. The goal of this national walk is to bring the crisis into the open and turn private pain into public pressure,” said Susie’s co-founder and producer, Rick Mountcastle, a retired federal and state prosecutor whose work was depicted in the Emmy-nominated Hulu miniseries “Dopesick” in which he was portrayed by Peter Sarsgaard. In addition to prosecuting OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma, a significant part of Mr. Mountcastle’s career was spent prosecuting fraud, abuse and neglect, and other crimes in the nursing home industry.
Part public-awareness walk, part memorial, and part call to action, the event will give families and advocates a visible way to bring the long-hidden crisis in long-term care into the public square. All participating communities will feature The Empty Chair Experience, a visual memorial and storytelling installation honoring residents who were harmed, neglected, or lost in long-term care. Families will be invited to carry photographs, names, ribbons, and stories of their loved ones into the light. Local events may also include speakers, resource tables, community storytelling, and coalition-building with organizations committed to improving care for older adults and people with disabilities.
ROAR 4 LTC is inviting individuals, families, organizations, universities, healthcare professionals, faith communities, and advocates to participate by walking, volunteering, sponsoring, spreading the word, or helping organize local events.
“This is not just a walk,” Carter added. “It is a national statement that the people living in long-term care are not invisible, their families are not alone, and reform cannot wait.”
