Are you selling your home soon and have gotten everything on the inside perfect? What about the outside? It may not seem important, but how your home looks as potential buyers walk up to it sets the tone for the viewing. So, what does it take to ensure that their first impressions are good?

Railings

Do you have steps leading up to your front door? Why not add something eye-catching with an exterior railing installation?

You may be asking why this is worth the money at the selling stage. Railings equate to safety, and safety ups the price of your home. Plus, railings look stylish, and even if you have a modern home, they come in a range of designs that can add something extra to the front of your home.

Paint Your Front Door

Even the best external paint can fade, become chipped, and look a bit rough. So, why not use this as an opportunity to repaint your door? Try to match it to the interior of your home, but don’t go too overboard. Many people who are looking to buy a home want a bit of a blank canvas that they can mentally put their mark on, which means that for those who are selling their home, white, black, grey, and even beige or terracotta are common colors.

Upgrade Lighting

It is true that most home viewings happen during the day. However, it is still worth upgrading your external lighting. Why? Brighter homes equate to security, and when someone is looking for somewhere to live, they will want to know that the lighting (or at least the wiring for their own external lighting) is set up.

There are numerous rechargeable LED lights that you can place outside your home to add external brightness quickly. Alternatively, you could spend some money on having an electrician come to your home and wire in lighting.

Plants

Even if you have a small front yard with a tarmacked driveway, even having a simple hedge plant in a pot can brighten the space and make it look more appealing.

If you already have a green front yard, then try to keep it in good condition in the run-up to house viewings. Mow the lawn as needed, trim everything back, and remove weeds and dead plants. You can even add some LED underlighting to plants in your garden to create a focal point for potential buyers, which can look classy and deepen interest.

Maintain

Exterior décor is great the minute it is completed, with things like plants and rechargeable lighting, but it can quickly look rough if it isn’t maintained. Plants can become overgrown, grass can become long, and lights can flicker or not work.

Once you have gotten everything about the outside of your home in line, you need to maintain it. Even if you have immediate viewings, this does not mean your home will sell straight away. You could be in for a long wait, and in that time, you need to keep everything as pristine as possible.

First impressions matter to people buying a home, so make sure they get the right one when they arrive at your home.
