Just two Instagram posts could earn this player’s yearly salary

The Cape Verdean goalkeeper Josimer Dias, known better as Vozinha, has put on a masterclass performance in the nations group stage games allowing the first time participants to progress to the first knockout round. He kept a clean sheet against European champions Spain and Saudi Arabia sparking a rapid surge in his social media followers.

The 40 year old went from a modest 50,000 followers on Instagram to over 11 million in just two days and is now sitting on over 17 million, fuelling debate on how footballers can see their “market value” transform overnight, not through contracts but rather clicks, followers and algorithmic fame.

The experts at Live Football Tickets have worked out how much money Vozinha could start earning through his new found fame on Instagram.

From goalkeeper wages to influencer brand deals

Playing for his club Chave in the second league of Portuguese football, Vozinha’s transfer market value is $50,000, which breaks down into around $4100 per month.

However, using influencer monetisation benchmarks and Instagrams earning estimation tools, his newly expanded audience could now carry significant commercial value.

Based on his 17.2 million followers and the fact that  posts published since his surge in popularity have averaged around 4 million likes, a single sponsored Instagram post could now be worth $36,000-54,000, meaning the star goalkeeper could earn his yearly wage with just one sponsored post.

These figures remain estimates as actual earnings are dependent on brand partnerships, audience engagement and content output.

As football becomes increasingly consumed through short-form digital content and highlight reels, players like Vozinha may find their most valuable performances are no longer just measured in saves but rather in shares, views and follower spikes.

Goalkeeper is currently being searched more than ever and Vozinha is the top trending goalie both in the US and worldwide. ‘Cape Verde jersey’ has seen an increase in searches of 645% alongside searches relating to the newly famed keeper’s mother making it to the United States to watch him play. The official visa fees of $15,000 were waived by the US Government and travel arrangements were made for her to fly to Miami to watch her son against Uruguay.

Maarten Zomerdijk, Co-CEO at Live Football Tickets said:

“Vozinha’s rise shows how quickly a player’s profile can change during a major tournament. Twenty years ago, a standout World Cup performance might have earned a player headlines in the newspaper and interest from bigger clubs. Today, it can also generate millions of followers, global recognition and entirely new commercial opportunities almost overnight.

These moments are no longer reserved for football’s biggest stars either. Players from smaller nations and less prominent leagues can now capture the attention of fans around the world through a single match, creating a level of visibility that wasn’t possible before the social media era.

Football has always been driven by memorable moments, but we’re increasingly seeing those moments translate directly into commercial value. A player can leave the pitch having earned a point or three points for their country, and wake up the next day with an audience that has fundamentally changed their earning potential.

We may also see social media influence become a more important factor in future contract negotiations. Agents already use a player’s commercial appeal when discussing endorsement opportunities and image rights, but follower growth, engagement rates and audience demographics could become increasingly valuable metrics when assessing a player’s overall marketability.”
