Keep the “I’m Having a Blast” Attitude

It’s exciting to see our supergroup grow. As many of you look at the leaderboard on our website, you are starting to see a lot of new names. It goes to show that you can be brand new and have success coming right out of the gates.

It’s so important that you just get out in the field and start contacting merchants. With our training program at RMS, you will have all the necessary tools to become successful. Unfortunately, some representatives get too caught up with having to know everything. I’ve literally heard some representatives say, “I really cannot get out in the field until I know everything.” The sad part about that philosophy is that most representatives never get out of the starting gates. Keep this in mind, you know more than 99% of the merchants.

The only way you’re going to continue to grow and get more knowledge and confidence is to get out in the field and get your feet wet. I have been doing this for almost 20 years now and with all the new technology coming out, I am learning things now more than I ever have. A lot of the information is just as new to me as it is to you. As a matter of fact, I’m learning things from all of you.

Today, I would like to share with you a perspective from a brand new rep starting out in the business. This particular representative is doing very well. He has only been in the business for a few weeks and he’s in very good production. He and I were texting a few days ago and I was congratulating him on his great start. He stated something to me which I thought was very profound. He said, “I’m having a blast!” I immediately responded and told him to always keep that attitude.

We talk about a wonderful slogan all the time here at RMS— “Having fun and making money.” It may sound corny but it is so true. If you are having fun in the field, then you are making money. If you are making money, then you are having fun. They go well together.

Sometimes it can be easy to go out in the field and not have fun. If you’re not having fun, it can be difficult and frustrating. There’s probably a good chance that you’re not being very productive either. It’s important when you are meeting merchants for the first time to leave a good impression that you enjoy what you do.

When you walk into a merchant for the very first time, what impression are you leaving? The most important one is that you absolutely love your job. They need to see that you enjoy helping merchants. They will love the fact that you are having fun.

That’s what this is all about. Do not take things too serious. Don’t take rejection personally. Make the decision, when you are driving out to your territory, that you are going to have an absolute blast every single day. I assure you that if you go out with that mentality, you are going to have an abundance of success.

Let me encourage all of you, whether you are brand new or have been around for 20 years or more, to always keep the fresh perspective of a new person. This week, make a decision to go out there—AND HAVE A BLAST!

Success and blessings!
