Can You? Only If You Try…

Growing up, my mother always told me, “You can do anything you want to do.” And I believed her. If I really want to do something, I will give it my all and I believe my life has been better because of that advice.

With that in mind, I thought I’d share some inspirational tidbits from around the news that represent that philosophy. Some may seem small if your ambitions and goals are lofty; but each individual has their own gauge of success. Enjoy!

Turia Pitt: After suffering burns to over 65% of her body from a grass fire during a marathon run in 2011, Turia Pitt, who was told she would never compete again, completed the Ironman Australia Triatholon in May and the Hawaii Ironman Triatholon this month.

Kayla Armbruster: According to Breitbart news, Kayla Armbruster, a thirteen-year-old student in San Antonio, Texas decided to write a letter to a veteran at the suggestion of her father. She invited other students to participate and it grew to a nationwide movement touching veterans at Fisher Houses across the country.

Star Wars Reads Day “May the force read with you”. That’s a quote from Jannette Pippin, Daily News Staff who covered a story about an annual campaign held around the globe. Star Wars Reads is a celebration of reading and Star Wars. What a great way to inspire reading!

Ruby Szudajski: At 86, my mother, Ruby Szudajski, decided to start writing. She wrote a chapbook of poems and then wrote her first paperback book, Naming Your Baby, limericks that break tradition and are suitable for all ages along with her favorite baby names and some of the top baby names in that year. In the last couple of years, she has been working on her memoir, Working on 100.

At 93, she still inspires me and proves her point: “You can do anything you want to do.”
