(FAIRLY) NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

I recently attended an industry networking event at 7th and Carson, located in Downtown Las Vegas.  Going downtown is a bit of a schlep for me, but I had heard good things about this restaurant and wanted to try it out for myself. Upon arrival we were escorted through a garden patio with fresh hanging herbs where guests can dine al fresco. Inside there is open seating at the bar and a main dining room with a view of the hugely popular open-air shopping and entertainment venue, Container Park, and the surrounding downtown area.

When we walked into the restaurant, the aroma coming from Executive Chef Gregg Fortunato’s kitchen literally made my mouth water but what impressed me before we even sat down and tasted the food was the friendly, welcoming attitude from the staff and especially from the owner, Liam Dwyer, former director of operations at The Light Group. The staff was attentive to everyone in the restaurant and Liam personally went to every table to ask his guests about their experience and handed out his business card. A true professional. Very impressive! 7th-carsons1

Once seated, we were served a variety of eclectic foods from Chef Gregg’s menu featuring American Tapas presented on sharable plates at reasonable prices. The menu is divided into Earth, Oven, Land and Sea.  We started with the Hearth Oven Bread, dusted with the Middle Eastern spice mixture, Za’atar, and served with hummus, red pepper relish, cucumber yogurt and baba ganoush accompaniments, all foods I grew up on. Next, the arugula salad with grilled pear and burrata; Tandoori heirloom carrots with Vauduvan Indian Spice Blend, Citrus Yogurt and Turmeric Oil; avocado toast; hamburger sliders with melted cheese and grilled onions, and the spicy extra crispy, oh-so-tender Carson fried chicken wings served with house-made habanero sauce and local honey. Last but not least, our very own dessert, a light and flavorful salted butterscotch panna cotta and a blueberry pastry dusted with powdered sugar.

7th and Carson has a hip relaxed atmosphere and it bills itself as “A nice little drinking spot with great food”.  I would have to say that I agree with that assessment, and it is most definitely worth the trip downtown.
