Starting your day off in the right frame of mind can be the difference between having a great day and a not-so-good day. It’s important that you set a positive tone when you wake up in the morning.
I’d like for you to reflect right now on how you start your day. What type of routine do you have? Are you truly setting yourself up for having a positive and successful day?
Having a successful start to the day begins with good habits. My goal today is to encourage you to have a great beginning. Here are some tips that may help you.
1) Get a good night’s sleep.
Unfortunately, many people wake up feeling more tired than when they went to bed. The problem is they’re not getting enough sleep.
It’s time to start thinking about changing your sleeping schedule. I have found that I need seven hours. During the week, I am in bed by 9:00 PM and usually wake up by 4:30 AM. I get a good night’s sleep and wake up refreshed and ready to take on the day.
2) Feed your mind with positive things.
Be careful what you are listening to in the morning. I understand that it’s important to keep up with daily events but the worst thing to do is to watch a bunch of negative news on TV.
As you are driving in the car, make sure you are listening to uplifting music or even better, listen to a self-help and/or inspirational audiobook to help encourage and lift you up.
3) Eat a healthy breakfast.
For myself, big breakfasts are not a good way to start my day. My morning meals consist of a banana, cereal bar, and a glass of water.
Stay away from all the processed foods that are full of sugar, and eliminate drive-through breakfast places.
Make a commitment to begin the day with wholesome food. Try a bowl of oatmeal or even scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast.
4) Start your day with exercise.
I have to admit that a while back I would probably not have put this one in here because I am confessing that I have not been one in the past to exercise.
However, this past week I have made the decision to wake up a half hour earlier, and the first thing I do is go for a 30-minute power walk in my neighborhood. What a great way to start the day! Get your body moving. As an added benefit, exercising in the morning will rev up your metabolism for the rest of the day.
5) Get up early enough so you’re not rushing.
When people are rushing around in the morning, it becomes a recipe for stress and frustration for the rest of the day. Get up early enough so you have plenty of time. By doing this, you can get everything done that is needed before you leave your house in the morning. You will also find yourself to be much more relaxed.
6) Think positive thoughts.
The moment you feel under stress or you are starting to worry, it is important to have positive thoughts. Eliminate any negative thinking. Make a commitment each and every day to do your absolute best and everything will fall into place.
7) Begin the day with an attitude of gratitude.
Always remember that each and every day is a gift. Before you get out of bed, give silent thanks for another day on this earth. Give thanks for the people who are most important to you. Give thanks for all your provisions. Never take anything for granted. Starting your day in gratitude will definitely give you the right attitude for the rest of the day.
Prayer is another excellent way to begin the day. Your morning prayer can be short or long, that really doesn’t make a difference. The most important thing is you’re starting your day off with God.
By starting the day in prayer, our attitude for the rest of the day will be hopefully more patient, less judgmental, and kinder.
9) Set daily goals.
It’s a good idea to write your goals for the day on paper. Everybody has smart phones now, so you can even put them on your phone. However you do it, it’s important to set small goals each day. Setting daily goals is the way to ensure that your day is spent wisely and positively.
10) Make a commitment to be positive throughout the day.
Make a decision every morning that you are going to remain focused on the positive, no matter what comes your way.
I realize this is sometimes easier said than done. There will be days when there is bad news or someone is rude to us, or things just don’t seem to be going right. It is important to make a decision at the start of each day that you’re not going to let anyone or anything bring you down.
This is a choice that we make not just in the morning, but throughout the entire day.
Let me encourage you going forward to make sure you start your day off focused and positive. Begin with good habits every morning. Having positive days is a decision that we make every day before we walk out the door.
Set the tone and make the decision when you wake up in the morning that you are going to have a super-fantastic, dynamite, exciting day!
Blessings and success!
