Sales: More Than a Numbers Game?

In my career in sales, I have heard that sales is a numbers game and have also recently heard that sales is not a numbers game, it’s a performance game.

The reality is both answers are correct. If you want to be successful in sales, first of all you have to have the correct mental attitude. Sales involves a lot of psychology. The mind Is powerful and will determine whether or not you are going to have success in sales.

A positive mental attitude is vital in order to have success. Do everything you can to work on keeping a consistent positive attitude. Start reading some biographies about success stories. Read inspirational books and listen to motivational tapes and videos. Make sure you are surrounded with successful people and people that are going to encourage you to be the best you possibly can be.

Another key that is vital to your success is to make sure you have knowledge about what you are selling. The only way to get more knowledge is to get out there and do it, and learn through your mistakes.

I have seen so many new representatives that never get out of the starting blocks because they feel they are not ready. The only way you’re going to learn and get good at your craft is to get out there and do it. Learn each and every day. Understand that you are going to improve and get better as long as you remain positive. Knowledge breeds confidence.

The third key is the most important. It is defined by one key word and that word is called WORK. I have talked to many successful representatives asking what the secret to success is. Each and every one of them spoke of simply going to work consistently each day. The reality is, the harder you work the luckier you get.

Now, let’s get to the numbers question. Is sales a numbers game? The answer to that question is…YES, as long as you have these three keys I just covered.

Today, as I was out working, I was receiving rejection and things were not falling into place. I had to remind myself that If I keep making the calls with a positive attitude and because of my knowledge and training, I will have success. There is so much truth to that. Eventually, I ran across a very nice merchant who just needed help and wrote that merchant up. The numbers game worked because of the key ingredients that go with it.

So let me encourage you today to have a positive attitude. Keep improving and applying yourself daily. If you do this, the numbers are in your favor. The system we have developed in our training program is a proven system and will provide you success as long as you take the steps that are necessary to be successful.

Have a super fantastic week!
