Many people think that truly successful people were just very fortunate or just plain lucky right from the beginning. They’ve got the talent, looks, the money, they have everything they need to succeed. Although that may be true in some cases, the reality is most successful people had to overcome major obstacles to succeed.
There are so many examples of people who have reached amazing success even though they had major challenges in their lives. I believe the limitations and challenges they may have had gave them the determination to strive to reach heights beyond their imagination.
The next time you may be tempted to give up in the face of a major obstacle, consider this…
Oprah Winfrey was abused as a child and ran away from home at age 13.
Helen Keller became deaf and blind when she was 18 months old.
Winston Churchill had dyslexia and suffered emotional instability.
Walt Disney had attention deficit disorder.
Michael Jordan got cut from the high school basketball team
The list goes on and on. The reality is that most highly successful people had to work very hard to overcome major obstacles in their lives.
I’d like to encourage you today by giving you five strategies that will help.
1) Never give up.
This is probably the one most common characteristic of all successful people and especially important for anyone struggling or going through challenges. Always remember why you started. No obstacle will ever get in your way. You will persist until you succeed. Nothing is going to stop you. It’s all worth it.
2) Try not to compare to others.
You’ve all heard me say that it is very important to have mentors. Mentors are there to help us. However, don’t compare yourself to them. Utilize the skills they are teaching you so you can improve.
Remember that you are unique and God has a plan for your life. He wants the very best for you. Successful people believe in their self-worth. There is only one you. Make the decision to make it the best you.
3) Keep positive.
When we go through challenges and difficulties in life, the natural tendency is to get down. It’s OK to get disappointed, but don’t stay there. Always choose to have an attitude of gratitude. It’s all about focus. It’s very important that we focus on the positive things and blessings that we have. Change your focus and you will change your attitude.
4) Turn failure into success.
In order to succeed, we have to fail. It’s important that we look at challenges as simply opportunities to grow. Successful people are not afraid to fail as they try new solutions and look for ways to overcome the obstacle that is in their path. Successful people have failed over and over again and that is why they succeed.
5) Keep growing.
Growing is part of living. The moment we stop growing, we start shrinking. Keep setting goals and then track your progress along the way. Visualize attaining your goals.
The reality is, we all go through obstacles and challenges in life. Sometimes they may seem insurmountable, but people throughout history have proven that obstacles can be overcome and sometimes they can be beneficial. It makes us stronger and builds our character. In the end we become better people. You are an overcomer!
May you have an awesome week!
Blessings and success!
