Feeling a spirit of darkness within the global winds as an aggression fills the flesh of man.  

“The Brothers Karamazov”, Dostoyevsky’s last novel (1880), is generally considered to be his masterpiece. Its central theme is arresting and provocative: if there is no God and no life beyond this life, then morality is non-existent; ANYTHING goes.

Memorial Day is a day to remember and honor all of the military personnel who have died in the service of our great country. Now keep in mind, we certainly want to celebrate Memorial Day but let’s remember those who gave everything to protect our country.

I think we’ve all been told at some point in our lives to “soar like an eagle.” Eagles are known for their power and their ability to fly at high altitude in the sky—where no other bird can fly.

I would not call Seabury Quinn’s “The Phantom Farmhouse” a great work of literature; but it is good, and well worth reading—especially for fans of the horror genre that do not require high doses of violence and sex in their fictional products.

Published in 1932, it is an autobiographical novel that is told in first-person by a character named Ferdinand Bardamu.  He is a doctor but talks like a criminal, and his slangy, vulgar voice is generally gripping and sometimes uproarious.  It can also be quite disturbing, as when he describes his combat experiences during World War I.

We all know about the bad things that COVID-19 has brought, what about the good? Is there anything good that has come from this infectious nuisance and deadly disease?

I find myself worrying about things I never really worried about before; if they happened, they happened. But now I am keeping my fingers crossed that my washer or dryer don’t break down because then I would have to call a repair person. Are they considered an essential business?
